Weimar l Germany

5077 m² gross area
Weimar is a culturally rich city in central Germany, known for its significant historical and artistic heritage. It was a major center of German literature, music, and philosophy during the Enlightenment and Romantic periods.
Weimar was also the birthplace of the influential Bauhaus movement, which revolutionized modern design and architecture. Additionally, it served as the capital of the Weimar Republic, Germany's first democratic government after World War I, hence its name.
Today, Weimar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors with its museums, theaters, and beautifully preserved historic buildings.
Harmonizing Tradition and Modernity
The Schillerhof ensemble, situated in the "redevelopment area downtown in Weimar," stands diagonally opposite Schiller’s residence and holds the status of a registered individual document. Its prime location on Schillerstraße, nestled between Schiller’s residence and the Theaterplatz, grants the building its distinctive urban character.
Simultaneously, it serves as a testament to the evolution of a residential street into a bustling commercial thoroughfare.
The boutique hotel's vision involves showcasing the historical aspect of the building by renovating it and incorporating a contrasting architectural style.
This includes a sleek, modern glass facade featuring angular shapes, which seamlessly integrates with the UNESCO heritage sections. The design extends throughout the upper floors and ceiling, creating a cohesive ensemble.
Embracing the spaces in between, i envisioned an avant-garde interpretation, characterized by sleek lines, transparency, and lightness. Structural glazing became the defining element, seamlessly integrating the new with the old while accentuating the architectural diversity of the ensemble.
The result is a striking juxtaposition of tradition and modernity—a harmonious blend of Weimar's past and future, inviting guests to experience the city's cultural heritage in a distinctly contemporary setting.
This Boutique Hotel stands not only as a place of accommodation but as a celebration of architectural ingenuity and respect for history.
In the heart of Weimar's historic district, stands a unique architectural marvel—the Boutique Hotel, a testament to the fusion of old-world charm and contemporary design. Comprising a cluster of existing buildings adorned with UNESCO heritage facades, this project posed a challenge and an opportunity for bold innovation.
Respecting the stringent preservation regulations, the heritage facades were meticulously restored to their former glory, preserving the essence of Weimar's rich history. However, between these iconic facades and alongside the non-UNESCO structures, a daring vision emerged.
